Talking about sports , college ground is the most important item. Rev. Bro. Julian set about the gigantic task of filling the pond in the northern sector to provide a playground to the students. Earlier it was a swamp which people used to come and angle for fish . He used to be there personally supervising the filing . He used to do the leveling by himself. A good part of it had been filled by the time he left the college.
Rev. Bro. Jones and Rev. Bro. Valentine gave much effort on this. But even for a small shower the ground had to be closed since it was not usable. There were times that the ground was closed for than half of the year. Rev, Brothers who were in charge of sports informed the difficulties the faced.
Later part of 1987 Rev. Bro. Clinton Perera who was the principal by then and Rev. Bro. Ephrum Obris who was then treasurer took over this critical and challenging task and as a result the ground was developed to the level that appears at present. Rev. Bro. Eprum Obris watered the newly planted grass at nights.
The score board was made at the time of Rev. Bro. Clinton Perera. By 1991 a beautiful pavilion was resulted as an effort of Rev. Bro. Shanthi Liyanage. More enhancements were done in order to supporting the cricket practices.
Up to 1982 administration of the ground was done by a Rev. Brother and the final Administrator of the ground was Rev. Bro. Clinton Perera. Then the same year Mr. A Gamini Fernando was appointed as the Administrator of the ground. Maris Stella obtained 5 trophies at the first national school sports meet held on 1984 , and brought the college to a highest level in the island. The only school which obtained that much of trophies was our college.
